First Week of Classes - complete!

I have just finished my first week of classes! Woohoo! Overall, I'm excited for the content of each class, but a few of them sound a bit more intense than I expected. On Mondays I have my Basic Italian course, which I love. It's wonderful to be able to start learning and speaking the language. Soon I will be able to go to markets and cafes and talk without any English! :) YES! I also have Creative Writing. I am a bit intimidated by this course, actually. The professor loves to discuss and hear our thoughts, which is great, but he also wants us to read all of our work out loud! Since I am one of the only non-English majors in the class and most of my "writing" I do is journaling, this makes me a little nervous. I will hopefully be ok though. On the positive side- we are reading to novels in the class as well which I am soooooo excited for! On Tuesdays I have Women and Religion which I wanted to take because I heard wonderful things about and because I took Women and Literature at St. Norbert and fell in love! But this class is a bit out of my element considering I haven't opened the Bible in forever :/ Then me and Amy have History of the Mafia which, despite the professors thick Italian accent, I am kinda excited for. The first day was a bit intense and very straightforward, but it seems like it will be very interesting. Today, my final day of classes, I had Basic Italian again and then Environment Conservation which can be summed up in one word: boring. It's complete lecture based and two and a half hours long plus the professor isn't the most exciting person in the whole world. Hopefully, it gets better.

So, those are my classes - some are wonderful others not so much, but thats normally how it is, isn't it? Other than that, Amy and I have been cooking a lot, which is helping us save lots of money! Woohoo. But there is this little pizza place right outside our apartment called Mi Amore Pizza and it is very delicious. For 2 and a half euro a slice, it's been one of the cheapest meals we have found!

Now for the weekend - Tomorrow Amy and I hopefully will travel over the Ponte Vecchio to the other side of Florence to see some greenery (It's not very nature filled on this side of the bridge) and the vineyards. We also have to do some research for some up and coming traveling plans to Rome/London which are getting quite jumbled up lately. Then, one of the nights, we hope to experience our first nightly outing in Florence - we are in the mood for some dancing for sure. (If only my sisters could be here for this one!) And of course, somewhere during the weekend, we will sit down like good students and get all of our homework done. :) How great.

Things are getting a lot more comfortable now - I love my roommates, I truly lucked out with these girls - they are exactly the type of crazy fun loving girls that you need to try and kick homesickness in the behind. Although - I've been missing St. Norbert life and the beautiful girls and boys I am so lucky to call friends there. It's hard to be without people you love to be around.

So, other than the normal boughts of homesickness and wishing I was with a certain someone, Florence is becoming home to me too! I am settling, for sure.

hi sweet cheeks. i'm very impressed with your prompt posting of both photos and journal entries. every time i read this thing it seems that you're doing better over there and really starting to kick your homesickness in the fanny. all of the pics you've taken really represent everything i imagine italy looks like, and the more you take, the more jealous i am that i'm here in madison. PLUS i keep hearing about all of these study abroad fairs and yada yada yada, and i'm so proud of you for actually doing it. i plan on living vicariously through you for the entirety of your trip, haha.

anyway, here's what's new in wisconsin:

1. the packers beat the vikings monday night, 24-19. i watched the game at jackie & kyle's place, and it turned out to be a big wdp band reunion. ian, nick hs, and eric babiash were all there. it was interesting, as you can well imagine. but most importantly, we kicked viking ass, and the packers looked decent.

oh, and equally important, i still can't decide if a-rod's attractive. hahahahaha.

2. school still blows and i can't wait to graduate.

3. i'm still dating graham.

4. i'm still broke.

5. i finally took it upon myself to order some textbooks. it wasn't one of my better moments, but it had to be done. i figure pushing it off until almost 2 weeks into the semester isn't bad at all, lolz.

6. our dearest younger sister loves to skype. the other day she got to see graham on the webcam. he waved hi. it was incredibly awkward. the other day i called home and talked to her for a bit and she said she wanted to skype. i told her i'd call her (on skype) when i got home (i was a few blocks away). i walked into my room to the skype phone ringing incessantly. that girl can't wait 5 minutes!!! i'm going to run to de pere and uninstall the damn thing.

just kidding.

7. i have a bicycle now! patrick brought it to work for me. it's pinkish-purple (my fav!). but shit, it was free. it's also the EXACT SAME BIKE that andrew has, but his is blue. same brand, same year, same style. we're gonna look like mary-kate and ashley riding those things down the street together. i'm quite amused.

8. all of my roommates (myself included!) refuse to change the garbage in the bathroom that is now literally overflowing with tissues, tampon wrappers, dental floss (all of the essentials). i think it's kind of like a war now. we'll see who cracks first. muah-ha-ha-ha.

9. i have a horrendous cold right now. in the last 24 hours i purchased: tylenol cold/sinus (both daytime and nighttime), vapo-rub (i love that stuff), nasal spray (sounds gross but works like a charm) and 4 mini packs of tissue (3 of which are now used). i've also been subsisting off of chai tea, one of the only things i can taste at the moment. hopefully it'll pass soon.

10. finally, i still love you and miss you. so let's skype soon. okay? okay. bye for now cait!
